The first reason is lots of people are curious about T. rex, so if the museum buys that, that will become published, and people can see it whenever they want to see it. The second reason is if the paleontologists who found the fossil don't put it up for auction, people might not hear about it, and our future generations won't see the T.rex bones. The third reason is that it takes a lot of time to find it, and the paleontologists deserve to be paid for their work. This fossil took 300,000 hours to uncover.

Remember that auctioned bones are not always given to museums. Often, things sold at an auction are kept at somebody's house as art. Always look at the opposite team's argument so that you are ready for what they will say :)
